It is Still Year of the Snake
The new year came and I, bright eyed and bushy tailed decided to embark on this chat group and vowed to do it every day for 30 days. Are there any other artists out there who find those types of promises to be more like famous last words? A prison of your own making? No? Just me? Ok.
Getting caught up in the idea of “resolutions” on an arbitrary date has never quite been my style. If you’ve read either of my New Year posts (the most recent or the one from a year ago) you will likely know that I have always treated my birthday much more as the new year. Even the Chinese New Year is closer to my birthday (falling on February 17th) and as many have pointed out on social platforms IT’S STILL THE YEAR OF THE SNAKE, we have not yet finished shedding our skin. We are not at a full trot embarking on year of the horse, not just yet.
January is still a time of cold and hibernation and moving slowly and eating heartily to combat the bitter cold of winter. I, myself, am just leaving the ice storm that has spread across much of the United States in the past couple of days seeking warmer weather.
The point I’m driving at here is, we, well, I would like a mulligan on this 30 days of Reawakening Sensuality. I’ve got everything ready to go for you all and even though I’m going to reboot, I sincerely hope many of you have soldiered on without me! (If you have please let me know so I can give you a virtual gold star of steadfastness).
We will go sense by sense, talking every 5 days (or so) about what has gone on for us during the days we have immersed ourselves in one particular sense. I’d love to hear from you all, if you would like to include your replies or snippets of your writings here daily, you are welcome to.
I hope you are all still shedding your skin, slowly moving and honoring the demands of the season. We are not ready to trot, let along gallop into the new year but, we can take things slowly and intentionally.
Slow intention was truly the inspiration behind The 30 days of Reawakening Sensuality journal prompts anyway. Thank you for doing this with me, thank you for holding space for me and thank you for being willing to look inward for you.
I would love to (once again) extend the invitation to becoming a paid subscriber and embarking on a slow, intentional experience with yourself. Yes, I will be there, too but, this really is about postponing the performative and getting back to your true nature or perhaps you’d like to unearth your true nature for the very first time.
Even if this only serves as a reminder to slow down, stop the rush and put down the performative, it will have been a worthwhile endeavor. Every behavior, skill or tendency that you have is like a muscle, you have to work it! You have to work your muscles or they will wither away— it’s very much use it or loose it. It’s very much like the process of a snake shedding their skin.
Keep going within. Keep trusting yourself.
Keep wiggling out of the spaces you have outgrown.
